Island Peak Climbing/Expedition

Nepal

About the trip

Altitude: 6189m
Best Season: Autumn/Spring

Island peak is one of the most climbed peaks in the Everest region. It is situated in the eastern reaches of Nepal within the Sagarmatha national park. The peak was named Island peak in 1953 by a member of a British Everest expedition because it appears as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dngboche. Locals named the peak Imjatse but Island peak remains the popular choice. The peak is actually an extension of the ridge coming down from the south end of Lhotse shar. This mountain was first climbed by Edmand Hillary and Tenzing Norgey's team in 1953. This is the next natural step after doing the Mount Everest base camp trek. The views from the summit are breathtakingly beautiful with many of the worlds most famous mountains nearby. Physically fitness, good training and a mentally strong attitude are required to go on this journey.

Highlights:

  • Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla whilst taking in the amazing mountain views including Mt Everest.
  • Trek along Sherpa villages, Buddhist shrines and high suspension bridges.
  • Enjoy the Everest Base Camp trek and Kala pathar before reaching Island peak.
  • Summit Island peak.
